HuaMeng YS3M 3x3 20-Magnets Ball Core UV

MoYu releases the YS3M under its HuaMeng brand. The model was developed in collaboration with YuSheng Du, former 3x3 world record holder. The HuaMeng YS3M 3x3 20-Magnets Ball Core UV is the most fully equipped version of this cube. It features MagLev, a Ball-Core with 20 magnets and a glossy UV coating. It comes in a stickerless bright colour scheme.

How it turns

Out of the box, the YS3M feels light and "airy", which is typical of newer MoYu cubes. Some reviewers compare its feel to the GAN 14. Users describe it as versatile: stable when you need it, but with enough flexibility when cutting. Corner cutting is good, and the strong compression and magnets let you set a looser tension without much risk of pops. At first, the cube can feel slightly sandy and tactile. Like most MoYu cubes, it needs a few days of breaking in and responds well to a thin layer of lube.

20 magnets in the core: what difference does it make

A classic Ball-Core has 8 magnets, one for each corner. In the 20-magnet version, MoYu added more magnets around the core. As a result, the cube has a stronger magnetic "snap" of the layers back into place (auto-alignment within about 25 degrees) and a more "controlled", stable feel. However, the difference compared to the 8-magnet Ball-Core is not huge, and some cubers don't notice it. If you prefer a calmer, more flexible cube, the 8-magnet version may suit you better.

Adjustment and technologies

• MagLev: the springs are replaced with repelling magnets, which reduces friction and gives faster, cleaner turning.
• Dual-adjustment: 9 compression settings plus tension adjustment.
• Dragon scale: a pattern on the internal pieces that reduces surface contact and helps spread the lube.
• UV coating: a glossy finish with noticeable grip.

Which YS3M version?

The YS3M comes in standard (springs), MagLev, Ball-Core, Ball-Core UV and 20-Magnets Ball Core UV versions. The versions without Ball-Core are cheaper, but they have no magnets in the core and no auto-alignment. This variant makes sense if you want full features and the most strongly stabilised version of the YS3M.

Who is it for?

For speedcubers who want a flagship cube with strong layer alignment and a wide range of adjustment, without paying for top-end models from a higher price bracket. For a child's first cube, a cheaper YS3M variant will be enough.
