HuaMeng YS3M Ball-Core UV 3x3

MoYu developed the HuaMeng YS3M line together with Yusheng Du, former 3x3 single world record holder. The HuaMeng YS3M Ball-Core UV 3x3 is the fully equipped version. It has magnets in the pieces, MagLev instead of springs, a magnetic Ball-Core and a glossy UV coating. The cube is available in a stickerless bright version.

How it turns

The YS3M is fast, but the word cubers use most often in reviews is "controllable". The feel is rather blocky and stable. The magnets in the core help finish each layer turn, so overshooting happens less often during fast turning. Corner cutting is good. Users comparing the YS3M with the RS3M V5 describe the YS3M as more stable and easier to control, and the RS3M as slightly faster. Straight out of the box the cube can feel dry and sandy. After lubing and a short break-in, the turning becomes noticeably smoother.

If you like very light, airy cubes, you may find the YS3M too heavy to turn. This is a cube for those who prefer to keep their layers under control.

MagLev, Ball-Core and adjustment

• MagLev: instead of springs, repelling magnets work in the centers, which reduces friction.
• Ball-Core: magnets between the core and the corners stabilize the cube and provide 25-degree auto-alignment. If a turn is slightly incomplete, the cube pulls the layer into place by itself.
• Tension and compression adjustment: lets you set up the cube more for speed or more for control.
• "Dragon scale" pattern: a texture on the internal pieces that reduces surface sticking and helps spread the lube evenly.

How it differs from other YS3M versions

The standard version has only magnets in the pieces and classic springs. MagLev replaces the springs with magnets. Ball-Core adds magnets in the core on top of that. The Ball-Core UV has the same mechanism as the Ball-Core and differs only in finish. Instead of matte (frosted) plastic, it has a glossy UV coating that gives more grip and is more scratch-resistant. According to users, the matte version gets slippery over time, while the UV version holds on to your fingers longer.

Who is it for?

This version is for cubers who want a stable, predictable cube for speedsolving and like strong grip. It also works well with more aggressive turning if you tend to overshoot on lighter cubes. For a child's first cube, the cheaper YS3M Magnetic or MagLev will be more than enough. The character is similar, just with fewer extras.
