HuaMeng YS3M MagLev 3x3

The YS3M is the flagship 3x3 cube of the HuaMeng line, released by MoYu in 2023. It was designed by Yusheng Du, former 3x3 single world record holder. HuaMeng YS3M MagLev 3x3 is the second version in the series. It has magnets in the pieces and a MagLev system instead of springs, but no magnetic Ball-Core and no UV coating. The cube is stickerless in bright colors with a matte finish.

How it turns

According to user reviews, the YS3M MagLev is fast. Its feel is usually described as tactile and "blocky" rather than very smooth. The cube has good corner cutting and does not force a particular turning style. Out of the box it can feel dry and sandy, and the mechanism is fairly loud. A little lube is usually enough, and the inside of the pieces has a "dragon scale" texture that helps spread the lube and reduces pieces sticking together. Cubers who know the RS3M often compare the YS3M to it, just with faster turning.

MagLev and adjustment

• MagLev instead of springs. The springs are replaced by pairs of repelling magnets. This means less friction in the mechanism and no spring noise.
• Dual adjustment. You can set tensioning (9 levels) and compression separately, so you can set the cube looser for speed or tighter for control.
• Fixed magnet strength. The magnets in the pieces cannot be replaced or adjusted.

Which YS3M version?

The standard version has classic springs and is the simplest. The Ball-Core version also has magnets in the core that attract the corners. This makes the cube more stable and it aligns the layers more strongly on its own. The UV versions have a glossy coating with more grip. MagLev sits in the middle of the series: you get a faster, spring-free mechanism, while the cube keeps a lighter feel without the extra "pull" from the core.

Who is it for?

For anyone who wants to move up from their first magnetic cube to a model with MagLev and dual adjustment, without paying extra for Ball-Core and UV. It also suits cubers who prefer cubes without core magnets because they find them too "controlled". If you need more stability during fast turning, the Ball-Core version is a better choice.
