The most fully equipped version of the WeiLong WRM V9. The MoYu WeiLong WRM V9 3x3 20-Magnet Ball-Core UV features the MagLev system, a magnetic Ball-Core with 20 magnets and a glossy UV coating. In total, the cube has 100 magnets. The main difference from the regular Ball-Core V9 with 8 magnets in the core is the stronger effect of the core. The cube comes in the stickerless bright colour scheme.

How it turns

This is a fast cube with a distinct "click" on every move. The magnets in the core pull the corners towards the centre, so the layers readily align themselves (auto-alignment) and stay in place during fast turning. Users praise its corner cutting and the good balance between speed and stability. They describe the feel as rather smooth, with a slightly crunchy character. Straight out of the box, however, the cube can be very fast. If you prefer a more controllable setup, you will usually want to lube it and tighten the tension. According to some reviewers, corner twists, which happened in older V9 versions, occur noticeably less often here.

MagLev, Ball-Core and adjustment

• MagLev: instead of metal springs, the layers are held together by repelling magnets. This makes turning lighter and quieter, and there are no "ringing" springs.
• 20-Magnet Ball-Core: a spherical core with 20 magnets that interact with the corners. It helps align the layers and stabilizes the cube.
• Dual-adjustment: 9 compression settings plus tension adjustment with a screw under the center cap.
• "Dragon scale" texture on the inner surfaces of the pieces, designed to reduce friction between layers.

The magnet strength is not adjustable. The compression ring has no markings, so the easiest way to check which level you are on is to turn it back to the first setting and count the clicks again.

Which V9 version should you choose?

The standard version has springs and 48 magnets. The MagLev version has 60 magnets. Both have a matte finish. The Ball-Core UV with 8 magnets in the core has 88 magnets and a UV coating. The 20-Magnet version offers the strongest core effect and is also the heaviest in the series, although the difference is only a few grams. If you like strong auto-alignment, this version makes the most sense. If you prefer a lighter, looser feel, the regular MagLev will suit you better.

For a speedcuber looking for a fast magnetic 3x3 cube with a strong Ball-Core who wants to fine-tune the setup themselves. For a child's first cube, a simpler, cheaper V9 version is more than enough.
