MoYu WeiLong WRM V9 Magnetic

MoYu's flagship 3x3 cube from 2023 and the successor to the WeiLong WR M 2021. The MoYu WeiLong WRM V9 Magnetic is the standard version, the simplest one in the whole V9 series. It has 48 magnets in the pieces and classic springs, with no MagLev and no Ball-Core. It weighs 67 g, measures 55 mm and has a matte (frosted) finish in the stickerless bright colour scheme. It is legal for official competitions.

HOW IT TURNS

Reviewers describe the V9 as a light, fast cube with snappy corner cutting. The magnets are medium strength and give a clear "click" when layers line up, but they are not strong enough to slow down your turning. The springs give a more traditional, slightly springy feel than the MagLev versions. Some users can hear the springs working, which lube usually fixes.

The cube is fast right out of the box, so it can feel a bit too loose. If you are a beginner or intermediate cuber, we recommend compressing the springs more or increasing the tension first, and choosing a lube that suits you. After this setup, the cube is noticeably more controllable.

ADJUSTMENT AND DESIGN

The V9 features MoYu's dual adjustment system. You set the spring compression in 9 positions with a ring, and adjust the tension separately with the screws. The inner surfaces of the pieces have a "dragon scale" pattern, a fine texture that reduces the contact area and helps smooth turning. Magnet strength is not adjustable in any V9 version.

HOW IT DIFFERS FROM OTHER V9 VERSIONS

The MagLev version uses repelling magnets instead of springs and has 60 magnets in total. The Ball-Core UV versions also have magnets in the core (8 or 20), which help with auto-alignment and stabilise the layers, plus a glossy UV coating with stronger grip. They are also heavier, from 71 to 78 g. The standard V9 lacks these extras, but uses the same piece design and the same adjustment system. The matte plastic has medium grip and shows fewer fingerprints. If you prefer a tacky, glossy surface, choose a UV version.

WHO IS IT FOR?

For cubers who want MoYu's flagship design without paying extra for MagLev and Ball-Core, and for those who prefer the classic feel of springs. Intermediate and advanced cubers who like to set up their cube themselves will enjoy it. It also works well as a first serious magnetic cube, but in that case it is best to tighten it a little right away.
