A QiYi number sliding puzzle on a 3x3 board with 8 numbered tiles that you arrange from the lowest to the highest number. Magnets keep the tiles on the board, and the flat, handy design lets you take the puzzle anywhere. Solving instructions are included.

This brain teaser has nothing to do with turning layers. The QiYi Magnetic Number Sliding Klotski 3x3 is a number sliding puzzle on a 3x3 board: you get 8 numbered tiles and one empty space. You slide the tiles one by one into the empty space until they are arranged from the lowest to the highest number. In this magnetic version, magnets keep the tiles attached to the base.
The rules take just a few seconds to explain, so even someone who has never held a 3x3 cube can pick it up. You don't need to learn any algorithms or notation. At first, trial and error and intuition are usually enough. Over time, you start planning a few moves ahead and solving the board row by row, just like on larger Klotski puzzles. That's why the 3x3 works well as a first sliding puzzle: it's solvable, but it still takes some logical thinking.
Once simply solving it is no longer a challenge, you can also solve sliding puzzles against the clock, just like cubes. On a 3x3 board the solution is short enough that you can easily do several attempts in a row and keep track of your times.
Thanks to the magnets, the tiles don't rattle around loosely and stay on the board even when you slide them quickly. The puzzle is small and flat, so it easily fits in a backpack or a jacket pocket.
For kids and adults who want to try logic puzzles without getting into speedcubing. It's also a nice addition to a cube for someone who already solves and wants something different to practise during breaks. If the 3x3 quickly stops being enough, the QiYi range also includes larger Klotski boards, where the number of tiles and the difficulty increase noticeably.
