QiYi Timer (Mythical Series)

QiYi Timer (Mythical Series) is the well-known QiYi speedcubing timer in a new housing. The body is transparent and lightly tinted, with designs inspired by creatures from Chinese mythology. It comes in three colors: Green (Qing Long, the Azure Dragon), Red (Zhu Que, the Vermilion Bird) and Transparent (Bai Hu, the White Tiger). The timer works exactly like the classic QiYi Timer. Only the look is different.

How the QiYi timer works

Timing works just like at competitions. You place both hands on the sensors, and the timer starts when you lift them. You stop it by putting your hands back down. Results are shown to the thousandth of a second, up to a maximum of 9:59.999. The sensors are angled slightly inwards, so your hands rest on them naturally. Rubber feet on the bottom keep the timer in place when you put the cube down quickly.

The timer remembers the last 3 results and keeps them after it is switched off. It's comfortable for training, but it won't replace an app or csTimer for keeping statistics. The Mythical Series version has no Bluetooth. If you want to send your times to your phone, choose the QiYi Smart Timer.

Mat and power

The set includes two mat clips. With them, you can attach the timer even to a mat that has no holders of its own. The timer runs on 2 AAA batteries, which must be purchased separately. On the side there is a port for connecting an external display, but the display and cable are sold separately.

Who is it for?

It's a great first timer for anyone who wants to time their solves like at competitions instead of using a phone stopwatch. It also makes a good gift for a child who is starting to solve against the clock. Users say the sensors are slightly less sensitive than on the Stackmat Pro, but they're more than enough for training at home. The Mythical Series version is chosen mainly for its looks. If appearance doesn't matter to you, the classic QiYi Timer works the same in practice.
