QiYi Timer XuanWu

QiYi Timer XuanWu is part of the Mythical Beasts series. It has a transparent black case and black-and-gold dragon artwork inspired by XuanWu, the mythical guardian from Chinese legends. In terms of features, it is a classic stackmat-style speedcubing timer. You start and stop it with your hands on the touch pads, and the display shows your time to the thousandth of a second.

Timing and result memory

The timer measures up to 9:59.999. That is enough for 3x3, bigger cubes and most other puzzles. The touch pads use multi-line sensor pads designed to react faster and more reliably when you place and lift your hands. The timer stores results from three sessions, so you can look back at earlier times while training without a phone or computer.

Stability and durability

• Six non-slip pads keep the timer from sliding across the table when you quickly put your hands down after a solve.
• Mat clips let you attach the timer to a mat so the whole setup stays together.
• The display is soldered to the board rather than connected separately, so it handles shocks and drops better.
• The reinforced battery compartment is secured with extra screws. This comes in handy if you often take the timer to meetups or competitions.

External display and Bluetooth

You can connect the timer by cable to an external display, for example during club sessions or local competitions. Bluetooth is not built in. To connect the timer to the Smart Player Pro app or a Bluetooth display, you need a Bluetooth adapter, sold separately.

XuanWu or Smart Timer XuanWu?

QiYi has also released a Smart Timer with built-in Bluetooth in the same design. That model connects to a phone app and calculates averages such as Ao5 and Ao12 automatically. If you mainly want a comfortable training timer that saves results on the device itself, this version is all you need. If you want all your times on your phone straight away, without buying an adapter, consider the Smart version.

Who is it for?

This is a great choice for your first real timer to replace the stopwatch on your phone. It will also appeal to cubers who want something more distinctive on their desk than a standard black timer. It also makes a good gift for a child who solves cubes and is starting to time their solves.
