Vin Cube 4x4 (58 mm) M V2 Apex

The second generation of Vin Cube's magnetic 4x4. The first Vin 4x4 was developed from the well-known YJ MGC 4x4 Magnetic. The V2 was redesigned from scratch and has a smaller body of 58 mm. The Vin Cube 4x4 M V2 Apex is the top version in the series. It has the most magnets, core magnets and a UV coating. It comes in a stickerless bright colour scheme.

Sprint, Surge or Apex?

All three versions have the same size and piece design. They differ in surface finish and magnet setup:

• Sprint: matte (frosted) surface, 96 magnets, no core magnets.
• Surge: UV coating, 16 core magnets and 96 magnets in the outer layers, 112 in total.
• Apex: the same as the Surge plus 48 magnets in the inner layers, 160 magnets in total.

On a 4x4, extra magnets in the inner layers make a difference. These are the layers that most often drift and fail to align during slice moves. In the Apex, the magnets cover all layers, so the cube should settle its turns more clearly on the inside as well.

How it turns

The cube has a magnetic "click" that helps you land in position. The core magnets connect the corners to the core, but this is not a Ball-Core. The UV version has a glossy surface with strong grip. Opinions on the V2 are mixed. Some cubers get good times with it. Others report catching, popping or too little stability compared with the first Vin. A lot depends on your turning style and setup, so this is not a cube that will suit everyone right away. It is worth lubing it well before you judge it.

Who is it for?

For a cuber who already knows 4x4 and is looking for a compact, strongly magnetic cube with magnets in the inner layers too. If you are just starting out with 4x4, the cheaper Sprint version or another basic magnetic 4x4 will usually be enough.
