Vin Cube 4x4 M V2 Surge 58 mm

In the second generation, Vin Cube shrank its 4x4 from 60 to 58 mm. On a cube of this size the difference is clearly noticeable, especially if you have smaller hands or practice in longer sessions. The Vin Cube 4x4 M V2 Surge is the middle version of the V2 series, between the basic Sprint and the flagship Apex. It has a UV coating, magnets in the pieces and core magnets, 112 magnets in total. We offer it in the stickerless bright colour scheme.

How it turns

The first Vin Cube 4x4 was derived from the popular YJ MGC 4x4. The V2 has a redesigned construction in a smaller body. The magnets in the pieces give a distinct "click" and help the layers snap into place. The core magnets additionally stabilize the outer layers when you turn fast. The manufacturer uses wider outer layers, anti-pop protection and "fishtail"-shaped pieces designed to reduce catching.

There are only a few user reviews so far. Cubers switching from the MGC praise it for being smaller and lighter while still stable. However, there are also comments about catching. The final feel will therefore depend to a large extent on your setup, i.e. lubing and tension adjustment.

Magnets and construction

• 96 magnets in the pieces and 16 core magnets. The core magnets work between the corners and the core. This is not a Ball-Core.
• UV coating. The glossy surface offers a firm grip and is more resistant to wear than regular plastic.
• Screw adjustment using the screwdriver included in the set.

Sprint, Surge or Apex?

All three versions have the same 58 mm size. They differ in finish and magnet layout. The Sprint has a matte (frosted) surface and 96 magnets in the pieces, without core magnets. The Surge adds a UV coating and 16 core magnets. The Apex also has 48 magnets in the middle layers, 160 in total. The Surge is a sensible middle ground if you want more stable outer layers than in the Sprint but don't need magnets in the inner layers.

Who is it for?

For cubers who can already solve the 3x3 and are looking for a compact, magnetic 4x4 for speedsolving, and who like a UV surface. The cube is also a good choice if classic 4x4 cubes of 60 mm and larger feel too big for you. If you just want to learn the reduction method, the cheaper Sprint is enough.
