The Vin Cube 4x4 was designed by Haixu Zhang, a former 4x4 world record holder. Its design is derived from the older YJ MGC 4x4 and builds on it. Vin Cube 4x4x4 Core Magnets UV Coated is the most feature-rich version of the first generation: a magnetic 4x4 with additional magnets in the core (Ball-Core) and a glossy UV coating. We offer it in the stickerless bright colour scheme.

How it turns

The pieces have large gaps between the corners and the centers, and the edges are widened. This gives good corner cutting while keeping the outer layers stable. Many people who switch to the Vin say that during the 3x3 stage it behaves much like a regular 3x3 cube. The feel is smooth and fairly fast. MGC fans will feel right at home with it.

Straight out of the box the cube can be loose, and some users report popping. Usually it's enough to tighten the screws by a fraction of a turn. With tighter tension, corner cutting gets slightly weaker, but it's still at a good level. Setting the tension properly and lubing the cube after a few days of solving noticeably improve its performance.

Core Magnets and UV: how it differs from other versions

• Core Magnets (Ball-Core). This version has 16 additional magnets between the corners and the core. They help the layers align and settle the cube during fast turning. The result is more controlled behavior than in the version without core magnets.
• UV Coated. The UV coating gives a glossy surface that offers better grip than regular plastic and is more scratch-resistant.
• Not to be confused with the V2. The Vin Cube 4x4 V2 (Apex and Surge) is a newer, smaller 58 mm cube with a different magnet layout. This product is the first-generation model, sized 60 mm.

Who is it for?

For anyone who wants a magnetic 4x4 cube with core magnets without reaching for the most expensive flagships. The Vin Ball-Core is a great choice for cubers moving up from the MGC 4x4 or a weaker 4x4, as well as for speedcubers looking for a stable cube for practice and competitions. In comparisons with flagship 4x4 cubes it performs similarly, although some reviewers give a slight edge to the more expensive models. Beginners will handle it too. Just keep in mind that it may need the screws tightened at the start.
