Vin Cube 4x4x4 Glossy

This cube was designed by Zhang Haixu, a former 4x4 world record holder. The Vin Cube 4x4x4 Glossy is a magnetic 4x4 cube built like an upgraded YJ MGC 4x4. If you have solved on an MGC, you will feel at home here in no time. This version has glossy plastic in a stickerless bright colour scheme and has no magnets in the core.

How it turns

Turning is smooth and fairly fast, and the magnets give the layers a clear snap into place. User reviews describe the magnet strength as moderate, slightly stronger than in the MGC 4x4. There are larger gaps between the corners and the centres, which helps with corner cutting. Wider edges on the outer layers improve stability, so outer layer turns feel much like a good 3x3. Some cubers compare the Vin to the MGC and describe it as looser and more flexible, but still stable.

Out of the box the cube can be dry and loose, and many users say it needs a little breaking in. Tightening it makes it more stable, but corner cutting becomes slightly weaker. The setup is therefore a trade-off between speed and control. It is worth starting with lube and only then adjusting the tension.

Glossy, UV or Ball-Core?

The Vin Cube 4x4 comes in several versions with the same body. Glossy is the basic variant with a glossy plastic finish. The UV version has a UV Coated finish that offers more grip. The Ball-Core versions have extra magnets in the core that help align the layers and give a more "controlled" feel. There is also a newer Vin Cube 4x4 V2 series (Apex, Surge, Sprint) on the market. It is a separate, smaller design, so its specs do not apply to this model.

Who is it for?

For anyone moving from 3x3 to 4x4 who wants a proper magnetic cube right away. It will also suit speedcubers who liked the MGC 4x4 and are looking for a newer design with a similar character. If you prefer a very stable cube with strong layer alignment, consider the Ball-Core version.
