WitEden Super Cube 3x3x8 v1

WitEden Super Cube 3x3x8 v1 is a 3x3x8 cuboid from WitEden's Super series, packed into a shape close to a regular cube. It measures approx. 52 x 58 x 58 mm, so in your hand it looks almost like a classic 3x3. On one axis, though, it fits eight layers instead of three. The body is black. This is a puzzle for your collection and for solving at a relaxed pace, not a speedcubing cube.

How it turns

The shorter axis holds eight layers in approx. 52 mm, so each layer is noticeably thinner than on a regular 3x3. This makes it harder to grip and turn a single layer on its own. It's best to align the puzzle carefully before every move, because lockups happen easily if it's not lined up properly. Puzzles of this type have little or no corner cutting. Things like TPS, stability or feel aren't worth comparing with magnetic flagships here, as this is a completely different category.

What to expect when solving

Knowing a 3x3 method helps with solving it. Most of the solve, however, comes down to solving consecutive layers and matching them to each other. Eight is an even number of layers, so there is no middle layer on this axis to start from. You also need to be ready for parity cases that don't occur on a regular 3x3. Solving takes more time and requires patience, but that's exactly why people pick up puzzles like this.

Who is it for?

For those who can already solve a 3x3 and are looking for something different from yet another fast cube. It's also a great choice for collectors of cuboids and WitEden puzzles. We don't recommend it as a child's first cube or for anyone who wants to practise for times. In both cases, a regular magnetic 3x3 will be a better choice.
