Eight layers along one axis and three along each of the other two, all packed into a shape measuring approx. 59 x 59 x 67 mm, only slightly larger than a regular 3x3 cube. WitEden Super Cube 3x3x8 v2 is a cuboid from a Chinese manufacturer that has been making unusual puzzles for years, including a whole series of 3x3xN cuboids and their "Super" versions. It's a great pick if you can already solve a 3x3 and are looking for something you can't solve with memorized algorithms alone.

In its Super versions, WitEden adds round pieces on the faces, and their orientation has to be solved too. Matching colors alone isn't enough, and some of the algorithms you know from the 3x3 simply don't work here. On top of that, there are eight layers along the long axis, and each one has to be solved separately. When scrambled, the puzzle loses its regular shape, which is why you'll also find it in our shape-shifting puzzles category. So first you need to restore the shape, and only then solve the colors.

How it turns

This is a collector's puzzle, not a speed cube for setting times. Don't expect corner cutting or the light, fast turning of modern 3x3 cubes. With WitEden cuboids, you usually need to align the layers precisely before each turn. Out of the box, the mechanism may feel stiff, especially when the puzzle is out of shape. Lubing it and breaking it in a bit usually helps, but in this category it's the challenge itself that matters most, not speed.

Who is it for?

For cubers who have already solved the 3x3 and other NxN cubes and now want to try cuboids and shape-shifting puzzles. This model also makes an interesting addition to a WitEden collection. For a child's first cube, a regular magnetic 3x3 is a better choice. This cuboid requires a solid knowledge of the 3x3 and patience to solve it without a ready-made tutorial.
