YJ MGC Beta 3x3 Maglev Ball Core UV

The MGC Beta is a new 3x3 cube in the MGC series, released by YJ in 2025. It features a new mechanism and a new adjustment system. The YJ MGC Beta 3x3 Maglev Ball Core UV is the best-equipped standard version of this model. It combines MagLev, an 8-magnet Ball-Core and a glossy UV coating. It is available in the stickerless bright colour scheme.

How it turns

The Beta has a distinctly magnetic feel. Every move ends with a noticeable "click", and the layers snap into place on their own. Users especially praise its corner cutting. MagLev speeds up the turning, but it doesn't make the cube feel twitchy. The core magnets keep it stable during fast turning. The UV coating gives good grip and isn't slippery. It's not one of the quietest cubes, but the sound is low-pitched and not tiring.

Out of the box, the cube is usually set up loose and very fast. On the factory settings you may get corner twists or even pops. Most people tighten it right away, and some also add a bit of lube. The magnets are fairly strong, so for OH the cube may feel heavy to turn.

MagLev, Ball-Core and adjustment

• MagLev: instead of springs, the cube uses repelling magnets. Turning feels lighter and there is no spring noise.
• 8-magnet Ball-Core: the magnets in the core attract the corners. This helps align the layers and reduces accidental misalignments at high TPS. According to the manufacturer, a layer self-aligns from approx. 43°.
• Dual adjustment: you adjust tension with a screw and set compression to one of 9 levels.
• UV Coated: a glossy coating that improves grip.

Which Beta version should you choose?

The basic MGC Beta is magnetic, has glossy plastic, uses springs and has no core magnets. The Ball Core UV version adds core magnets and a UV coating, but still runs on springs. This version also has MagLev, so it turns slightly lighter and faster. If you prefer the more noticeable resistance of springs, you may feel more comfortable with the version without MagLev.

Who is it for?

For cubers who want MagLev, core magnets and extensive adjustment without reaching for the most expensive flagships. It works well as a 3x3 main. However, it needs a few minutes of setup, so for a complete beginner child, the simpler magnetic version may be more convenient.
