YJ YuHu Megaminx V3 M - black caps

This is not a puzzle but a set of black caps for the YJ YuHu Megaminx V3. The caps are made for this model and let you replace one face of your megaminx. After the swap, the colour you choose is replaced by a black face. The set also comes in handy if you lose or damage one of the original caps.

Why a black face on a megaminx?

A megaminx has twelve colours, so some shades look similar. In many colour schemes, white and cream, grey, or two shades of green cause trouble. Black stands out clearly from the rest, so many cubers put it in place of one of these colours, most often grey or white. This makes it easier to find pieces during F2L and S2L, and your recognition and lookahead become more reliable.

A tip from cubers who have already done it: don't put black on the face you solve as the last layer. The contrast helps most when you are searching for pieces during the solve. On the last layer it doesn't add much. Ideally, black goes on the face you start with or the face whose pieces you often lose track of during lookahead.

A new colour scheme takes a little getting used to, especially if you have been solving on one megaminx for a long time. If you are colour neutral and flexible about the order of faces, you will adapt quickly.

Compatibility and installation

The caps match the shape of the YuHu Megaminx V3 pieces. Each cap has its own place: there are separate caps for the center, edges and corners. They fit the V3, but not the older YuHu V2 M, which has different pieces and its own set of black caps. To install them, remove the original caps from one face and put on the black ones. On the YuHu V3 the center caps come off easily, as this version was designed that way. Be gentle with the edge and corner caps so you don't scratch the plastic.
