YJ YuHu Megaminx V3 MagLev Ball-Core

The third generation of the YuHu megaminx is, in practice, a brand-new design. YJ changed the mechanism, the core and the size. YJ YuHu Megaminx V3 MagLev Ball-Core is the best-equipped version in this series. Besides positioning magnets, it has MagLev instead of springs and a magnetic Ball-Core. The edge measures approx. 30.6 mm, so this megaminx is noticeably smaller than many classic models. The shop offers the stickerless bright variant.

How it turns

Users describe it as a fast megaminx, but above all a stable one. The magnets in the core hold the layers in place, so the puzzle behaves predictably during fast turning. MagLev reduces turning resistance compared with classic springs. Out of the box, the puzzle is set fairly tight, and corner cutting at this setting is not one of its strengths. Some people loosen it to improve corner cutting and smoothness. Don't overdo it, though, as a setup that is too loose increases the risk of pops and corner twists.

The small size is a matter of preference. It shortens finger travel, but if you are used to large megaminxes, it may feel too small at first.

MagLev, Ball-Core and tension adjustment

• MagLev. Repelling magnets work in place of springs, making turns lighter and reducing resistance.
• Magnetic Ball-Core. The spherical core with magnets helps align the layers and stabilises the puzzle during fast turning.
• Stepless tension adjustment and 9 compression levels. You change the settings by hand, without tools. Easily removable centre caps make it simple to access the mechanism.
• Grooves inside the pieces. The manufacturer calls this pattern the "waterweed pattern". It is designed to distribute lube better.

V3 Magnetic or MagLev Ball-Core?

The standard YuHu V3 Magnetic is the same size, but it uses springs and has no magnets in the core. It is also noticeably lighter. Users describe its feel as crunchy, and some find its magnets too weak. The Ball-Core version weighs approx. 133 g and is more stable. If you like a light and more flexible megaminx, you may feel more at home with the basic version. If you value stability and control, you will probably prefer the Ball-Core.

Who is it for?

For cubers who practise megaminx regularly and want a stable puzzle with MagLev and magnets in the core. It is also a sensible first megaminx for someone who solves the 3x3 well and wants a model with adjustment right away. If you have large hands, keep the smaller size in mind.
