ZePuzzles 1x4x4 Floppy Cube is a cuboid from the floppy family, which means it has only one layer of depth. The top and bottom have a 4x4 grid, and each side has a single row of pieces. How the 1x4x4 floppy works

Each layer is only one piece thick, so you can't turn it 90 degrees like on a regular cube. Every move is a 180-degree turn of a strip. This makes solving feel different from a 3x3 or 4x4. Algorithms from classic cubes won't work here, so you have to work out the solution from scratch. With only one layer of depth, though, you can quickly see what each move changes. The 1x4x4 is the easiest puzzle in the ZePuzzles floppy series. The larger 1x5x5, 1x6x6 and 1x7x7 models have a denser grid and are more difficult.

What to expect out of the box

This is a collector's puzzle, not a speed cube, so TPS and corner cutting don't really apply here. Users say it turns decently for its design. Straight out of the box it can be a little stiff, and lube noticeably improves how smoothly it turns. 3D printing gives it a different texture from injection-molded plastic. The tiled pattern on the faces also improves grip.

This floppy cube is a good fit for cubers who already know the classic cubes and want something unusual for a quick solve or for their collection. The 1x4x4 is the best place to start with this series. It also makes a great gift for an older child who enjoys puzzles.
