ZePuzzles 1x6x6 Floppy Cube

ZePuzzles 1x6x6 Floppy Cube is a flat floppy-style cuboid with a 6x6 grid on its two large faces. The sides are only one layer deep. It belongs to the ZePuzzles floppy series, which also includes the 1x4x4, 1x5x5 and 1x7x7 versions. The 1x6x6 is the second-to-last step in the series, which makes it the second hardest. The puzzle is printed not from PLA but from PETG, a material that is less brittle and handles drops better.

How is it different from a regular cube?

A floppy cube doesn't have the multi-layer depth typical of NxN cubes. The whole puzzle is a flat "tile" with slightly rounded faces. When solved, you see one large 6x6 face on each side and narrow strips of colour on the edges. There are no classic methods like the ones for 3x3. You have to work out the solution yourself by watching how the individual rows behave.

Compared with the 1x4x4 and 1x5x5, it has more pieces and the scramble goes noticeably deeper. If this is your first floppy cube, the 1x4x4 is a better choice. The 1x6x6 is more for those who already know the smaller versions and want a tougher challenge.

Build

• 3D printed from PETG. You can see subtle print layers on the surface, which sets it apart from injection-moulded plastic cubes.
• Matte (frosted) finish. The surface is divided into tiles that give your fingers a secure grip.
• Three body colours: Black, Blue and Pink.

Who is it for?

Mainly for collectors of unusual puzzles and cubers looking for a change from standard NxN cubes. It's a non-WCA puzzle, so it's not meant for breaking records at competitions. What counts here is experimenting and understanding how the puzzle is built, not TPS. As a child's first puzzle, it may turn out to be too difficult. It makes more sense to start with a classic 3x3 or a smaller floppy cube.
