Calvins Puzzle Lantern Wheel Cube

The Lantern Wheel Cube belongs to the Wheel Cube series, in which Calvin's Puzzle puts a rotating wheel into every face of the cube. The Calvins Puzzle Lantern Wheel Cube is a shape mod that you don't solve like a classic 3x3: the wheels interact with the pieces around them, so you have to learn the mechanics of this puzzle from scratch. In our shop you'll find the standard version with a black body.

How the Lantern Wheel Cube works

In the middle of each face there is a wheel you can turn. The moves of the wheels and the rest of the cube affect each other, so after just a few turns the pieces move in ways that are hard to predict at first. Knowing 3x3 algorithms isn't enough here. First you need to understand how the individual parts move, and only then can you build your own method.

Lantern, Multi-Star, Tornado and Void versions

The Wheel Cube series also includes the Multi-Star Wheel Cube and the Tornado Wheel Cube, among others. All of them have wheels on their faces, but they look different, so don't assume in advance that they are solved the same way. Some models also come in a Void version, with a hole in the middle of each face containing extra pieces to solve. This product is the standard version, without holes.

Who is it for?

For collectors of unusual puzzles and for anyone who can already solve a 3x3 and is looking for something less obvious. This is not a cube for timed speedcubing. The manufacturer doesn't mention any features known from speed cubes, such as magnets or tension adjustment, and the whole fun lies in figuring out the mechanism on your own. The black body with wheels on its faces also looks great on a collection shelf. As a child's first cube, it's better to choose a classic 3x3 and save the Lantern Wheel Cube for later.
