DaYan Crazy Pentahedron Earth

DaYan Crazy Pentahedron Earth is a puzzle shaped like a triangular prism, a solid with five faces. It was created by DaYan in collaboration with MF8 and belongs to the Crazy Pentahedron planetary series, which includes eight versions named after planets. The Earth version has circular cuts on all five faces, which gives it the most of any puzzle in the series. We offer it in the stickerless bright colour scheme.

How the Pentahedron works

The base Pentahedron has three triangular layers that turn by 120 degrees. The rectangular side faces turn too, but only by a half turn (180 degrees). The Crazy versions add circles on the faces. On the Earth, the circle turns together with the face on two faces, while on the other three it stays fixed relative to its side. Because of this, the pieces move differently than on a regular Pentahedron, and you need to keep a close eye on which parts move together with the layer.

How the Earth differs from the other planets

The versions in the planetary series share the same shape and mechanism. They differ in the number of circles and in which of them turn together with the face. The Mercury has circles only on two opposite faces, the Saturn on three, and the Earth on all five. Each version therefore calls for a slightly different solving approach. If you want to get to know the shape first, it will be easier to start with the standard Pentahedron without cuts.

Who is it for?

The Crazy Pentahedron Earth is for those who already know the 3x3 and want to try something less obvious, and for collectors of unusual DaYan and MF8 puzzles. Experience with cuboids helps a bit, as some techniques are similar, but they don't translate one to one. This is a puzzle for solving for fun and for your collection, not for speedsolving. It is not a WCA event and nobody tuned it for high TPS. For a child's first puzzle, it's better to choose something simpler.
