GAN 12 ui SP standard version, 3x3 smart cube

GAN 12 ui SP is a smart cube. It connects to your phone via Bluetooth and sends every move to the GAN Cube Station app. The mechanism comes from the GAN 12 platform, but there is no MagLev here. Layer tension is set by classic springs. The "standard version" label refers to the charger: the set includes the PowerPod Standard, a charging case with a built-in battery. You can charge the cube in it even when the case is not plugged in.

Move tracking and app

Layer moves are read by 6 angle sensors in the core that work on the Hall effect. These are magnetic sensors, so there is no mechanical contact and they do not wear out from turning. They are also designed to reduce missed moves at high TPS. A gyroscope tracks rotations of the whole cube. After each solve, the app shows you stats such as TPS, move count and solving fluency. You can also train with guided tutorials and play online. The cube works with the GAN Robot (V2).

Mechanism and adjustment

• GES Pro+: adjustment with 6 tension levels and 6 compression levels.
• GMS v3: a magnet system with 4 strength levels.
• Springs instead of MagLev. This gives a more traditional and controllable feel than the GAN 12 ui Maglev.
• UV coating: a glossy surface that offers good grip.

Opinions on the feel are mixed. Some cubers praise the smooth turning and few lockups. Others say the corner cutting is weaker than in regular flagships without electronics. It is worth taking a moment to adjust the tension and magnet strength before you judge the cube.

SP or Maglev, Standard or Basic?

The GAN 12 ui Maglev has magnetic rings instead of springs, and its turning is usually lighter. Choose the SP if you prefer springs and a bit more control. The Standard and Basic versions have the same cube. They differ only in the PowerPod: the Basic charges the cube only when the cable is connected, while the Standard works as a portable power bank.

Who is it for?

For cubers who want to analyze their solves: check TPS, spot weaker parts and practice algorithms with the app. If you only need a cube for competitions, you can get a flagship without electronics at a similar price. For a child who is just starting out, a cheaper smart cube is often enough.
