GAN 15 MagLev Frosted 3x3

GAN 15 MagLev Frosted is GAN's flagship 3x3 cube, designed above all to be lightweight. According to GAN, the cube weighs 58.6 g, which in practice is about 59 g. That is noticeably less than the GAN 14 MagLev, which weighs about 70 g. This version has a matte (frosted) surface without UV coating and comes in the stickerless bright colour scheme.

How it turns

The GAN 15 is fast, but compared with the GAN 13 and GAN 14, many cubers find it more controllable right out of the box. Corner cutting is at flagship level. Thanks to its low weight, the cube responds to very light turning and tires your hands less during long sessions. Some users also praise it for OH. Opinions are not unanimous, though. Some find the cube almost too light and harder to control. There are also reports of minor catching and lockups on the factory settings, which usually disappear after lubing and adjusting the tension.

MagLev, magnets and adjustment

• MagLev: repelling magnets instead of classic springs, which reduces turning resistance.
• 76 magnets: 48 in the corners and edges, 8 in the corner feet, 8 in the core and 12 ring magnets in the core.
• 3 magnet strength levels, changed with interchangeable magnetic rods (strong, medium, weak). The adjustment applies to the corner-core magnets, not the magnets in the pieces.
• 6 tension levels and 6 center travel levels, giving 36 settings in total.
• Auto-alignment within approx. 15–40°. The layer snaps into place on its own; the exact angle depends on the lube and settings.
• The pieces have a honeycomb structure that helps spread the lube.

Compared with the GAN 14, there are fewer magnet strength options. If you like spending a lot of time fine-tuning your setup, keep this in mind.

Frosted or UV?

The mechanism is the same in both versions; only the finish differs. The Frosted version has matte plastic that shows fingerprints less. The UV version is glossy and offers more grip.

Who is it for?

For speedcubers looking for a light, fast MagLev cube who prefer a matte surface. The GAN 15 is also a good choice if the GAN 14 felt too fast for you. If you are used to heavier cubes, it may take some time to get used to such a low weight.
