GAN 15 UV NewBlack

GAN 15 UV NewBlack is a version of GAN's flagship 3x3 cube that differs from the other variants in two ways: a black interior made of a new plastic and classic springs instead of MagLev. With the GAN 15, the manufacturer focused above all on reducing weight. According to GAN, the cube weighs about 60 g, while the GAN 14 weighed about 70 g. Even so, it keeps everything you expect from a flagship: fast turning, good control and corner cutting on par with top-tier cubes.

What makes NewBlack stand out? The internal pieces are made of a material that GAN describes as car-grade plastic. According to the manufacturer, it is durable, has low friction and runs more quietly. On the outside, the cube has a glossy UV coating that gives your fingers good grip. This is also the only version in which GAN fits a new spring in the centers, designed to make turns smoother and more predictable.

Springs or MagLev? This is the main difference compared with the GAN 15 MagLev. In the MagLev version, repelling magnets replace the springs, which makes turning lighter and usually faster. User opinions on NewBlack are mixed. Some praise its very smooth and quiet feel, while others find that the spring version is slower than the MagLev one and can even be louder out of the box. If you like a more stable and predictable feel, you'll feel at home with NewBlack. If speed is your top priority, you'll probably choose MagLev. Some reviewers also say that good cutting only appeared after adjusting the settings.

Adjustment. The GES Pro+ system offers 6 tension levels and 6 levels of center travel (compression). On top of that, there are 3 magnet strengths, changed with swappable magnets in the corners and in the core. Altogether, that gives 108 combinations. The adjustment dial locks with a click, so your setting won't change while you solve. The cube also features auto-alignment of up to 40 degrees: the magnets in the core help finish a layer that wasn't turned all the way.

A world record cube. In April 2025, at Shenyang Spring 2025, Xuanyi Geng solved the 3x3 cube in 3.05 s, setting the then world record on a GAN 15 NewBlack.

Who is it for? For speedcubers who want a lightweight GAN flagship and prefer classic springs over MagLev. A child's first cube doesn't need to be this advanced, but an ambitious young cuber will make good use of the adjustment options. Size: 56 mm, stickerless bright color scheme.
