GAN V100 Maglev Frosted 3x3

GAN V100 Maglev Frosted is a lighter and more affordable option from GAN than the GAN 16, but with similar features: MagLev instead of springs, core magnets and numerical adjustment with 72 settings. This version of the 3x3 cube has a matte (frosted) surface without UV coating and a black interior. It measures 55 mm and weighs approx. 64 g, so it is smaller and lighter than most flagship 3x3 cubes.

How it turns

The V100 is fast right out of the box and very light in the hands. Users describe the feel as smooth and "glassy", with a slightly tactile, crunchy character. Corner cutting is easy. The magnets in the pieces give a clear click at the end of each move, and according to the manufacturer the cube aligns layers on its own up to approx. 35°. As a result, less precise turns are rarely punished. Reviews also mention that with aggressive turning and loose settings you may get overshooting, occasional lockups, and the layers can loosen slightly. If you prefer a calmer, more controllable cube, start with a higher tension or use a thicker lube.

MagLev, core magnets and adjustment

• MagLev: repelling magnets work instead of metal springs. No spring friction or spring noise.
• Core magnets: magnets between the corners and the core stabilize the cube and help align the layers. This is not a Ball-Core.
• 76 magnets in total across the whole design.
• 72 settings: 12 tension levels and 6 center travel (compression) levels, marked with numbers under the centers and changed with the tool included in the set. Magnet strength is not adjustable.

Frosted, UV or Leap?

The Frosted and UV versions have the same mechanism. The matte plastic gives medium grip and picks up fewer fingerprints, while the UV version is glossy and grips the fingers more. The Leap version has no MagLev, just springs. It is slightly lighter and, according to users, quieter and more predictable when turning.

Who is it for?

For speedcubers looking for a fast, light MagLev cube without paying for the GAN 16. The small size and low weight work well for OH and for people with smaller hands. According to GAN, Teodor Zajder set a European record average (4.37 s) on the V100 Maglev. Beginners can handle it too, as the cube is forgiving, but it is better to set it tighter at first.
