GAN V100 Maglev UV Minions

A collector's edition of the V100 with an official Minions licence, created by GAN together with Illumination. Under the cartoon look, it's a regular GAN V100 Maglev UV: a magnetic 3x3 cube with MagLev, core magnets and a glossy UV coating. This version has its own 6-colour scheme, a banana-yellow internal plastic instead of black, and a center cap featuring Stuart the Minion holding a ukulele. It performs exactly like the standard V100 Maglev UV. Only the look and the box contents are different.

How it turns

The V100 is a small (55 mm) and light (64 g) cube. Reviews most often describe it as very fast with light corner cutting. The feel is smooth, with a slightly crunchy, tactile character. The magnets are noticeable and snap the layers into place well, but they don't slow down the start of each turn. Some users find the cube too loose and too fast out of the box. With imprecise turning, this can lead to lockups and overshooting. Usually, tightening it or using a thicker lube is enough to fix this.

MagLev, magnets and tension adjustment

• MagLev: repelling magnets replace the springs in the mechanism. This makes turning quiet and light, and there's nothing to wear out and replace over time.
• Core magnets and 35° self-aligning: magnets in the core pull the layers into place. GAN calls this omni-directional positioning. This is not a full Ball-Core.
• 76 magnets in the whole cube, plus a spherical orbit: a spherical path of movement for the pieces, designed to improve stability.
• Numerical tension adjustment with 72 settings, the same system as in the GAN16. You adjust it with the included tool, so it's easy to return to your favourite setup.

How it differs from other V100 versions

The mechanism is the same as in the regular V100 Maglev UV. The Minions edition differs in its colours, yellow internals, center cap and themed extras. The V100 Leap uses springs instead of MagLev and is slightly lighter (62 g). The matte version has no UV coating, so it offers less grip.

Who is it for?

For anyone who wants a fast, adjustable 3x3 cube and loves the Minions, or who is looking for a gift for a younger cuber who already knows the basics. The 55 mm size will also appeal to people with smaller hands and OH fans. If you prefer a very stable, "heavy" cube, be prepared for the V100 to require more precise turning.
