The Pioneer version of the second-generation WaveRider has 82 magnets, a 20-magnet Ball-Core and 6 magnetic rings in the core. It positions the layers more firmly than the Flagship version. It has classic springs, 64 adjustment combinations (8 compression levels and 8 tension levels), a size of 56 mm and a weight of 73 g.

HaiTun is a young manufacturer that debuted with the first WaveRider in 2024. The second generation comes in four versions: Standard, Flagship, Pioneer and Ultimate. HaiTun WaveRider V2 3x3 Pioneer is a magnetic speed cube with a 20-magnet Ball-Core, six magnetic rings in the core and magnets in the pieces. In total, it has 82 magnets. It measures 56 mm, weighs 73 g and comes in a stickerless bright colour scheme.
According to the manufacturer, the magnetic rings are meant to speed up turning and pull the layer more firmly into the correct position. In practice, moves end with a distinct "click", and you can clearly feel the auto-alignment. Early user reviews describe a cube that is well set up right out of the box and has a smooth feel. The cube is clearly focused on control. Some people find it slightly slower than its competitors, but very predictable. There are also comments about a dull, "hollow" sound during very fast turning. It may sound better after lubing.
Every version of the WaveRider V2 is 56 mm, has a 20-magnet Ball-Core and the same adjustment range. They differ in their magnet layout. Standard has 88 magnets but no magnetic rings. Flagship has the rings but only 70 magnets and weighs 72 g. Pioneer adds more positioning magnets in the pieces on top of the rings (82 magnets, 73 g). Ultimate has the most magnets, 94, and weighs 74 g. So the Pioneer sits in the middle: it has more positioning magnets than the Flagship, but fewer than the Ultimate.
The Pioneer is for cubers who like a stable cube with layers clearly guided by the magnets and want to fine-tune the settings themselves. If you prefer lighter, less "controlled" turning, the Flagship will suit you better. The Pioneer can also be a good next step after your first, cheaper magnetic cube. However, a child who is just learning to solve won't make use of such a wide adjustment range.
