MF8 Crazy 3x3 Earth

From a distance it looks like a regular cube, but every face has a circular cut. MF8 Crazy 3x3 Earth is one of eight cubes in the Crazy 3x3 Plus series. Each one is named after a planet of the Solar System, and each behaves a little differently. The series is made by MF8 in cooperation with DaYan. Our version comes in the stickerless bright colour scheme.

How is Earth different from the other "planets"?

All cubes in the series share the same mechanism. The only difference is how the centre of the circle behaves on each face. On some faces, the inside of the circle turns together with the whole layer, just like on a regular 3x3 cube. On the others, only the outer ring turns when you rotate the face, while the centre of the circle stays in place. In the Earth version, the circles on the white and green faces turn together with their faces. On the remaining four faces, the centre of the circle stays in place.

From the outside, all the "planets" look the same. You only see the difference once the cube is scrambled and the pieces inside the circles start moving between faces.

How to solve the Crazy 3x3

Knowing a 3x3 method is not enough. You have to solve the pieces inside the circles separately, which feels a bit like solving centres on bigger cubes. Being able to solve a 3x3 helps a lot, but for a full solve you will also need some extra algorithms or a bit of your own experimenting. Customer reviews describe the turning as smooth and the difficulty as approachable for a puzzle of this type. However, this is not a speedcubing cube and it is not meant for setting fast times.

Who is it for?

This puzzle is for someone who already solves the 3x3 and is looking for something other than yet another faster cube. It will also appeal to collectors who want to complete the whole planet series. For a child who is just learning to solve, a regular 3x3 cube is a better start. The Crazy 3x3 is worth coming back to once the classic cube is no longer a challenge.
