MF8 Crazy 3x3 Neptune

The mechanism is the same as in a regular 3x3 cube, but each face has a circle cut into it. MF8 Crazy 3x3 Neptune is part of the Crazy 3x3 Plus series, released by MF8 together with DaYan. The series comes in eight versions named after the planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. They all share the same construction. The only difference is how the circles behave on each face. We offer the stickerless bright version, made of coloured plastic with no stickers.

How the Crazy 3x3 works

The circle divides each face into an inner and an outer part. There are two types of faces. On the first type, the centre circle stays in place and only the outer part moves when you turn the layer. On the second type, the whole face turns together with the circle, just like on a classic cube. In the Neptune version, three adjacent faces work one way and the other three work the other way. This layout determines which pieces get scrambled and how you need to approach the solve. That is why each "planet" is a slightly different puzzle.

Is it hard?

To solve it, you need to know a 3x3 method. Algorithms alone are not enough, though. The circle pieces scramble differently than on a regular cube, so you will have to figure out part of the solution yourself or adapt sequences you already know. If you can't solve a 3x3 yet, it's better to start with a classic cube.

This is a shape mod for fun and collecting, not a speedcubing cube. High TPS doesn't matter here – working things out does. According to early user reviews, straight out of the box the cube can feel slightly sandy and a bit loose. Lubing and tightening it usually helps.

Who is it for?

For cubers who can solve a 3x3 and are looking for something new, but don't want to jump straight to much bigger puzzles. Neptune will also appeal to collectors, as the eight versions make up a complete series. It can also be a great gift for a child who has already mastered the regular cube.
