This puzzle comes from the Crazy 3x3 Plus planet series, created by MF8 together with DaYan. From a distance, the MF8 Crazy 3x3 Uranus looks like a regular 3x3. The difference is a circular cut around the center on each of the six faces, which creates extra circle pieces. Because of them, the cube solves completely differently from a classic one. We offer it in the stickerless bright version, made of colored plastic with no stickers.

What is Crazy 3x3?

The Crazy 3x3 Plus series has two types of faces. On the first type, the circle is attached to the center and turns together with the whole layer, just like on a regular cube. On the second type, the center and the circle stay in place, and only the outer ring of the layer turns. How many faces of each type there are and how they are arranged determines the specific planet. The series includes eight models: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. In the Uranus version, the circle turns together with the layer on four faces.

How to solve it

The biggest change compared to a regular 3x3 is the circle corners and edges, which have to be placed separately. On faces where the center stays still, you can't simply turn them along with the layer. Layer-by-layer algorithms alone won't be enough here. Knowing commutators and being able to move single pieces without messing up the rest of the cube helps a lot. Keep in mind that each planet has a different face arrangement, so a guide for another version won't always be useful.

This is a puzzle for figuring things out, not a cube for setting fast times. If you're looking for a fast 3x3 for speedcubing, choose a classic magnetic cube.

Who is it for?

For people who can already solve a regular 3x3 confidently and want to take on a new kind of challenge. Puzzle collectors will also love it, as you can collect the full set of eight planets. For a child's first cube, when they're just getting to know the 3x3, it's better to pick a classic model and save the Crazy 3x3 for later.
