QiYi SpeedCubing Aurora Timer Limited Edition

QiYi SpeedCubing Aurora Timer Limited Edition

QiYi SpeedCubing Aurora Timer Limited Edition is a limited version of the popular QiYi speedcubing timer. It works exactly like the standard version and differs only in looks: the green cover contrasts with the white plastic. This has a practical side too, because a bright colour is easier to catch out of the corner of your eye. When you finish a solve, your hands find the sensors faster and you are less likely to miss stopping the time.

How the timer works

Place both hands on the sensors and wait for the green light to come on. The time starts when you lift your hands to begin solving and stops when you put them back on both pads. Timing is accurate to one thousandth of a second. This is the same way of starting and stopping the time that you know from competitions, so you can build the same habits at home.

The sensors are angled slightly inwards, towards the display, so your hands rest on them naturally. Rubber feet on the bottom keep the timer in place when you put the cube down quickly. Some users notice that the sensors are a little less responsive than in more expensive Stackmat-style timers. For everyday practice, however, this is not a problem.

Memory, clips and display connection

• 3 memory slots: saved times stay in memory even after you switch the timer off.
• Mat clips included: you can attach the timer even to mats that have no holders of their own.
• Port for an external display or computer: the cable must be purchased separately.

Who is it for?

This timer is for anyone who wants to start timing solves on a real timer instead of a phone, and for cubers looking for a proven, simple timer for practice. In terms of features, the Aurora version is no different from the regular QiYi Timer. You choose it for the colour scheme and better visibility on your desk or mat. If you want to save your times in an app, a timer with Bluetooth connectivity is a better choice.
