QiYi Timer Data Cord – 3.5 mm timer cable

QiYi Timer Data Cord is a timer data cable with a 3.5 mm mini-jack plug on both ends and a length of 1.5 m. It sends the time from a QiYi timer to a computer or a competition display. The cable is handy when you want to practice on a timer with a mat and save your results straight to a stats program, without typing them in by hand after every solve.

What the timer cable is for

Plug one end into the timer's socket and the other into your computer's audio input or into a display. The timer sends the time as an audio signal. A program that supports this kind of input, for example csTimer with timer input selected, reads the signal and records every solve. You get ao5, ao12 and your full session history while practicing on a real timer, just like at competitions. You can also use the same cable to connect the timer to a display so spectators or other competitors can see the time.

Before you buy: compatibility

• The cable fits timers with a 3.5 mm socket, primarily QiYi timers.
• It does not fit Speed Stacks timers. They have a 2.5 mm socket, so they need a 2.5–3.5 mm cable.
• On a computer, the cable must be plugged into the microphone input. Many laptops have only one combined headphone/microphone jack (combo). In that case you may need a splitter with separate headphone and microphone sockets.
• The cable will only work with a phone if the phone has a 3.5 mm jack with microphone support and the app can read the timer signal.

Tested with our timer

We tested this connection with our free cube timer ("Cable timer" tab): you start and stop with your hands on the timer, and the times are saved automatically in a session with ao5 and ao12 averages - just like in csTimer.

• QiYi timers (including QiYi Mythical) have a 3.5 mm socket and work with the cable without any problems. SpeedStacks timers (2.5 mm socket) need a 2.5-3.5 mm cable.
• Work via cable: SpeedStacks G4 and G5, QiYi, QiYi Mythical and Sengso.
• Do not work via cable: MoYu and YJ timers - in our tests they sent no signal through the socket.
• Laptop with a single jack (headphones and microphone combined): you need a TRRS splitter, and you plug the timer cable into the "microphone" part. On some laptops this kind of jack does not detect a microphone at all - in that case a USB sound card with a separate microphone input will help.
• Windows: in the sound settings, select the microphone from the jack (not "Microphone Array" - that is the built-in microphone), set the input volume to about 30%, microphone boost to 0 dB and turn off audio enhancements. If the signal is too loud, the time on the screen freezes.
• Phone: a timer plugged directly into the phone's jack does not work - the phone does not treat it as a microphone. With a splitter the signal gets through, but in our tests it was too loud and distorted. On a phone, the QiYi Timer Bluetooth Adapter works best - no cable needed.
