DaYan offers the GuHong Pro M line in three sizes: 54, 55 and 56 mm. Here you will find the smallest of them. DaYan GuHong Pro M 54mm is a magnetic 3x3 cube with core magnets (Ball-Core), tool-free adjustment and a stickerless bright colour scheme. It costs noticeably less than flagship cubes but performs very similarly, which is why many cubers choose it as their main cube.

How it turns

It is a naturally fast cube with very good corner cutting and light slices. The piece magnets are medium-weak, so the layers snap into place gently, without a strong "click". Stability comes mainly from the Ball-Core. The cube is quiet. Reviewers rate its reverse corner cutting lower: it is usable, but it needs well-chosen tension and lube.

DaYan lubes its cubes heavily at the factory. Straight out of the box, the GuHong Pro M turns very lightly, but some people find it too loose and prone to overshooting at first. During the first few days, lube may also seep out. If you prefer a more controllable feel, you can wipe off the factory lube, apply a thicker one and tighten the cube a little. Keep in mind that the lube wears off fairly quickly on this cube.

Adjustment

The adjustment has 5 levels and is changed by hand, without a tool. There is no separate tension and compression adjustment, and the strength of the core magnets cannot be changed. For most people this range is enough, although fans of extensive setups may find it limited. The edges have slots where you can glue in additional magnets - an option for those who like modding their cubes.

54 mm or a larger size?

The mechanism is the same in all sizes; they differ mainly in size. The 54 mm version fits smaller hands well and works great for OH and for kids. It also requires fairly precise turning. For two-handed solving, people with larger hands often prefer 55 or 56 mm. The newer GuHong Pro+ has dual adjustment and adjustable core magnet strength, but the simpler settings of the Pro M are more than enough for many cubers.

Who is it for?

For anyone who wants a fast, quiet cube with core magnets and does not need extensive adjustment options. It is also a good choice if you are looking for a small cube for OH. Beginners get a cube they will not outgrow for a long time. To start with, though, it is worth setting the tension a little higher.
