DaYan GuHong Pro Maglev 55mm

This is a magnetic 3x3 cube from DaYan in the MagLev version, in the middle of the three available sizes. DaYan GuHong Pro Maglev 55mm has magnets in the pieces, additional magnets between the corners and the core, and 5 settings that you change with your fingers, no key needed. In our shop it is available in the stickerless bright colour scheme.

How it turns

The GuHong Pro is light and noticeably fast. Users describe the turning as smooth, with a soft, slightly "papery" feel that many associate with DaYan cubes. Forward corner cutting is good. Reverse corner cutting is weaker and depends a lot on the setting and lubrication. At high TPS some people report overshooting, especially in OH. If you prefer a calmer cube, start with a higher setting or use a thicker lube.

The cube comes heavily lubed from the factory. Some cubers wipe off the excess right away or re-lube it to their own taste.

MagLev, core magnets and adjustment

• MagLev. Instead of springs, repelling magnets do the work here. According to users, the MagLev version is slightly quieter and more controllable than the spring version.
• Corner-to-core magnets. The corners are attracted to the core, which helps keep the layers aligned during fast turning. The strength of these magnets is fixed.
• 5 manually adjustable settings. On 1 the cube is fastest and cuts corners best; on 5 it is tighter and more stable. There is no separate tension and compression adjustment; a single dial changes everything.
• Auto-alignment of approx. 15° and pieces with an anti-stick design intended to reduce friction.

GuHong Pro or GuHong Pro+?

The newer GuHong Pro+ has dual adjustment (6 tension levels and 8 compression levels) plus core magnet strength adjustable in 5 levels. If you like fine-tuning your cube, the Pro+ gives you more options. If five simple settings are enough for you, the original GuHong Pro offers a similar character and you can set it up in a few seconds. The 55 mm size is a compromise between the 54 mm version, better for smaller hands, and the 56 mm version, closer to a classic cube.

Who is it for?

For cubers who want a cube with MagLev and core magnets without reaching for expensive flagships. The GuHong Pro works well as a main for intermediate cubers. Beginners can handle it too, but at this speed it is better to start with setting 3 or higher. If you are looking for a slow, very controlled cube, keep in mind that the GuHong Pro naturally leans towards speed.
