DaYan GuHong Pro M 55mm

GuHong is one of DaYan's oldest series. The 2023 Pro M version turned it into a cube built to today's standards. The DaYan GuHong Pro M 55mm is a magnetic 3x3 cube with additional magnets between the core and the corners (Ball-Core), tool-free tension adjustment and a glossy surface. The model was released in three sizes: 54, 55 and 56 mm. This version is 55 mm, a size similar to most current speedcubing cubes. It is available in the stickerless bright colour scheme.

How it turns

The cube is fast right out of the box. Turning is smooth, and the plastic has the soft, slightly "papery" feel typical of DaYan. The magnets in the pieces are on the medium-weak side, so the cube turns lightly, while stability comes largely from the core magnets. Users praise its corner cutting and fast middle-layer moves. Compared with other new cubes, the GuHong Pro M is also fairly quiet.

This character won't suit everyone. Some people find the cube not very controllable on loose settings, and it can occasionally catch. Higher tension and thicker lube usually help. The factory lube wears off fairly quickly, so after a while you'll need to lube the cube again.

Adjustment and features

• Magnets between the core and the corners. They pull the corners towards the centre of the cube, so the layers hold together better during fast turning.
• 5 adjustment settings changed by hand, with no key or screwdriver. The dial is similar to the solution known from GAN cubes.
• No dual adjustment. You can't set tension and compression separately. For most people 5 levels are enough, but if you like fine-tuning your setup, you may feel limited.
• Glossy surface, stickerless.

Pro M or Pro+ M?

Its successor, the GuHong Pro+ M, got dual adjustment, adjustable strength of the core-to-corner magnets and better-fitting center caps (on the Pro M they sometimes fell off). The Pro M has a simpler design: fewer things to set up, but also fewer ways to tailor the cube to you.

Who is it for?

For cubers who want a modern 3x3 cube with core magnets, like a fast, light-turning cube and don't need extensive adjustment options. Reviewers also praise it for OH. Beginners can handle it too, but its speed takes a little getting used to. If you have smaller hands, consider the 54 mm version.
