GAN 251 M Air 10th Anniversary

GAN released this special edition to celebrate its tenth anniversary. The GAN 251 M Air 10th Anniversary is a magnetic 2x2 cube with the same mechanism as the standard 251 M Air. What sets it apart is the look: transparent, colored pieces, a commemorative "10 Years" logo and its own anniversary packaging.

How it turns

The Air is the lightest version in the 251 M series. The magnets are only in the corners and their strength can't be adjusted. There is no core magnet either. This makes the cube lighter than the Pro and Leap versions, and it turns lightly with no resistance. Users mainly praise it for its speed, smooth feel and good corner cutting.

The magnets are noticeably weak, and some people say they can barely feel them. If you like a strong "click" when layers line up, you may find it not stable enough. With imprecise turning, the cube is less forgiving than models with a core magnet. On the other hand, if your solving style is light and fast, the weak magnets usually won't get in the way.

Adjustment

Tension is set with GES, GAN's nut system. You get 2 nut distance settings and 4 elasticity levels. Some users find GES on a 2x2 quite sensitive, so it's worth adjusting it patiently, in small steps.

Air, Pro or Leap?

• Air: non-adjustable corner magnets, no core magnet. The lightest and simplest version.
• Pro: three magnet strength settings and a core magnet. Gives you more stability and control.
• Leap: the same magnet adjustment system as the Pro, but with a noticeably larger core magnet. It has a faster feel.

The anniversary edition doesn't change the Air's mechanics. You buy it for the looks and for your collection.

Who is it for?

For cubers who like light, fast 2x2 cubes with weak magnets, and for collectors of GAN editions. If you're looking for a more stable cube with magnet adjustment, the 251 M Pro will suit you better. As a first 2x2 cube for a child, a budget model is usually enough.
