GAN 251M Leap UV 2x2

This is the GAN 251M Leap magnetic 2x2 cube from 2021 in the UV-coated version. The mechanism is the same as in the regular Leap. The only difference is that the outside of the cube is covered with a thin layer of lacquer cured with ultraviolet light. This makes the surface smooth and glossy. It grips your fingers better than matte plastic and is intended to resist surface wear better. The cube's performance and how it turns are the same as in the GAN 251M Leap.

How it turns

The Leap is the most strongly magnetic version in the 251M series. Besides the standard magnets in the pieces, it has corner-core magnets, a system carried over from the GAN 11 M Pro, as well as a feature GAN calls large-angle magnetic alignment. In practice, the cube clearly pulls the layer in at the end of each move and aligns it by itself. As a result, it handles corner cutting and fast turning well, and the feel is distinct and snappy. Users describe it as fast and stable at the same time.

You do need to like strong magnets, though. Some people find them strong even on the weakest setting, and a few reviews mention catching before the settings were adjusted. If you prefer a more neutral feel, the GAN 251M Pro will suit you better.

Adjustment

Magnet strength and tension are adjusted separately. The magnets have three strength levels. Tension is changed with GES nuts, and the set includes four sets of springs with different stiffness. Blue GES (1.7N) come pre-installed. You will find the remaining sets and the adjustment tool in the box. This lets you set the cube up for speed or for control in just a few minutes.

Who is it for?

For anyone who takes 2x2 seriously and wants a cube with strong, distinct magnetic guidance of the layers and a wide range of adjustment. Choose the UV version if you like a glossy surface with a strong grip. If you prefer matte plastic, choose the standard Leap, as the mechanism is the same. For a child who is just learning to solve the 2x2, a simpler and cheaper magnetic cube will be enough.
