GAN 251M Leap UV 10th Anniversary

GAN released this edition to celebrate its 10th anniversary. The GAN 251M Leap UV 10th Anniversary is a magnetic 2x2 cube built on the 251 M Leap mechanism. What sets it apart is the look: translucent pieces with a glossy UV coating, the anniversary "10 Years" logo and special packaging. The internals are the same as in the standard Leap UV, so both versions solve exactly the same way.

How it turns

The Leap has magnets in the corners and a second set of magnets between the corners and the core. GAN calls this large-angle magnetic alignment. In practice, a layer that you haven't turned all the way snaps into place on its own, and the cube gives a clear click with every turn. Users mainly praise its stability and very good corner cutting. Pops and lockups are rare. The magnets are strong, and some people find them fairly strong even on the weakest setting. If you prefer light, looser turning, keep that in mind.

Leap or Pro?

According to GAN, the Leap and the Pro share the same adjustable magnet system in the corners and core. However, the Leap has a larger core magnet and is geared more towards speed, while the Pro focuses on stability. The 251 M Air, on the other hand, is the lightest in the series, but it has no core magnets and no magnet adjustment.

Adjustment

• 3 magnet strength settings that you change with your fingers, no tools needed.
• 4 spring elasticity levels and 2 nut distances in the GES system. Swapping the nuts can be a bit fiddly, as you need to hold the cube while doing it.
• Altogether, this gives you 24 configurations.

Who is it for?

For cubers who want a flagship 2x2 cube for practice and competitions, plus a nicely made anniversary edition for their collection. If you only care about performance, you'll get the same mechanism in the standard 251M Leap UV. For a child's first 2x2 cube, a simpler magnetic model is more than enough.
