MoreTry Tianma X3 Super Magnetic 3x3

The Tianma X3 was MoreTry's first cube. It was released in 2022 in four versions: Single, Double, Triple and Super. The MoreTry Tianma X3 Super Magnetic is the most feature-rich of them. It has 132 magnets and a MagLev system, in which layer tension is set by repelling magnets instead of traditional springs. The cube is stickerless (Stickerless Bright), and the semi-transparent internal pieces are cyan.

How it turns

Users describe the Tianma X3 Super as fast but still controllable. It is most often praised for its corner cutting and for forgiving imprecise turns, including in algorithms with D-layer moves. The magnets are clearly noticeable, and auto-alignment at around 45° helps the layers settle into place after a turn. Out of the box the cube can be set up quite loose, so it's a good idea to tighten it a little at first to reduce the risk of popping. According to some reviews, it is louder than lubed spring-based cubes.

There is a downside, too. Some users report that after a drop the pieces can come apart and the magnets can fall out, and putting it back together takes quite a while. It's best to carry it in a case.

MagLev and adjustment

• MagLev instead of springs. Layer tension is set by magnets, not by springs in the core.
• Numbered settings. The adjustment positions are marked, so it's easy to return to your setup.
• Auto-alignment of around 45°. The magnets help align a layer when a turn isn't completed.
• "Fishscale" design. The pieces have bumps arranged like scales, intended to smooth out turning.

Super, Triple, Double or Single?

The versions differ in the number of magnets and the tension system. Single (48 magnets) and Double (96 magnets) use springs, with auto-alignment of around 10° and 20° respectively. Triple has 120 magnets and half-travel MagLev, while Super has 132 magnets and full MagLev. Each successive version is slightly heavier and has a stronger magnetic feel. The Tianma X3 is not the same as the newer Tianma X3+ series, which is a refreshed design.

Who is it for?

For cubers who want to try a MagLev cube with a distinct magnetic feel without spending money on flagship models. It works well as a main for beginners or intermediate solvers. For young children, a simpler version may be a better choice, as this cube doesn't handle drops well.
