MoYu RS3M V5 SE Magnetic 3x3

MoYu RS3M V5 SE Magnetic is the basic magnetic version of the RS3M V5 3x3 cube. It has the same mechanism as the standard V5 and differs only in looks: a black logo and a black Special Edition-style box. The RS3M V5 is the successor to the RS3M 2020, MoYu's budget cube that many cubers have learned on over the years. The V5 is lighter and has redesigned pieces. This version has a matte (frosted) surface and comes in the stickerless bright colour scheme.

How does it turn?

The cube is light and fairly fast right out of the box. Users describe its feel as slightly tactile and "bubbly", typical of the RS3M series. According to the manufacturer, corner cutting is 55° and reverse corner cutting is 35°, so the cube forgives imprecise turns during F2L. The pieces have double anti-pop protection, rounded centre pieces and an internal "dragon scale" texture that reduces the contact area between pieces. Some users find the magnets rather weaker than in more expensive cubes. If you like a distinct "click" with every move, you may prefer the Ball-Core version.

Which RS3M V5 SE version?

• SE Magnetic (this version) has 48 magnets in the pieces and no adjustment system in the core. It is the simplest and cheapest in the series.
• SE Dual-Adjustment has the same set of magnets plus separate tension and spring compression adjustment with 9 settings. It is a good choice if you want to tune the cube's speed to your style.
• SE MagLev Ball-Core UV has MagLev instead of springs, magnets in the core and a glossy UV coating. It is more stable and feels more "controlled", but it is also noticeably more expensive.

Who is it for?

It is a great first magnetic cube for a child or for an adult who is just starting to solve. The magnets help the layers settle into place, and the cube needs no adjustment to be enjoyable to solve. It also works well as a cheap backup cube or one to keep in your bag. A speedcuber who wants to set the tensioning to their own preference should choose the Dual-Adjustment version instead.
