QiYi Magnetic Clock

QiYi Magnetic Clock is a fully magnetic Clock, the puzzle used in the official WCA event. Each side has nine clock dials, and you change their positions with the wheels in the corners and four buttons (pins). The QiYi Clock has been on the market since 2020, and among people who compete in this event it is considered the model that other clocks get compared to. This version comes in a pink colour scheme (Pink). The mechanism is the same as in the other colours.

Magnets in the Clock: what they do in practice

The gear of each dial holds small magnets, 204 in total. The pins have another 4 large magnets. Thanks to this, the hand clearly stops at the next hour with every turn. Overshooting happens less often, and a dial that isn't turned all the way doesn't block later moves. On older, non-magnetic clocks this was one of the main causes of lockups. The magnets in the pins make pushing a button in and out clearly noticeable.

Turning resistance doesn't disappear completely. With three or more pins up, the wheel turns more heavily, although according to reviewers it is noticeably lighter than on other clocks. Some users also find the Clock rather dry and heavy straight out of the box. Lubing the mechanism usually helps with that.

Adjustment and build

• Four-screw tensioning. With the screws you can set how tightly the two halves are pressed together, and therefore how lightly the dials turn.
• Easy disassembly. You can open the Clock without special tools to lube or clean it.
• Rounded wheels that don't rub your fingers when you turn fast.
• Dials made with inserts instead of printing. The markings don't wear off and stay easy to read.

Who is it for?

For people who want to get started with Clock and for competitors who train it seriously. Clock is easier to learn than a 3x3 cube, as you can learn the basic method in one evening. That's why it's also a good idea for a child who already solves cubes and is looking for something new. The Pink version differs from the black, blue or lilac ones only in colour, so pick the colour you like.
