QiYi Magnetic Clock - Limited Edition in gray is a limited version of QiYi's magnetic Clock. The mechanism is the same as in the current QiYi Magnetic Clock with the new 2024 magnet layout. What sets it apart is the look: gray faces with red and white accents and dedicated limited edition packaging. The series is released in a limited number of units.

What is Clock?

Clock is one of the WCA events. It doesn't look like a cube. It's a flat, double-sided puzzle with 9 clocks on each side, four pins and four wheels. The goal is to set all the hands to 12 o'clock. Solving Clock doesn't require any 3x3 skills, and you can learn the basics in a single evening.

Magnets and wheel performance

The QiYi Magnetic Clock has 208 magnets: 204 small ones in the gears and 4 large ones in the pins. Thanks to them, the hands stop exactly at the hour positions, and the pins snap clearly between the up and down positions. On older, non-magnetic Clocks, a typical problem is hands stopping between hours and pins getting stuck halfway. Here it happens much less often.

In the 2024 magnet layout, the dials and pins received magnetic positioning rings. The magnets at the center dial are stronger and those at the edges are weaker, which makes positioning the corner dials easier. According to the manufacturer and reviewers, this makes turns more consistent regardless of how many pins are pressed, and the magnetic resistance is lower than in the first version.

Who is it for?

The mechanism is the same as in the standard QiYi Magnetic Clock, so the limited version doesn't solve any faster. The gray color and collector's box matter mainly to collectors and to those who want a Clock that looks different from the popular colors. If you're just starting out with Clock or training for competitions, it's a comfortable model from the very first solve. You don't need to modify it, which is often necessary with cheaper Clocks.
