QiYi Magnetic Clock - Limited Edition

This is a limited orange edition of the magnetic Clock from QiYi. The mechanism is the same as in the refreshed QiYi Magnetic Clock with the improved magnet layout (2024 version). It's a Clock that's ready for speedsolving straight out of the box, with no modding needed. If you're new to this puzzle: the Clock has two faces with 9 clocks each and 4 buttons (pins). The goal is to set all the hands to 12 o'clock. It's one of the official WCA events.

Magnets and how it feels when solving

Inside there are 208 magnets: 204 small ones in the gears and 4 large ones in the pins. The dials and buttons have magnetic positioning rings. Thanks to them, every hour clearly "clicks" into place and the hand never stops between two positions. The magnets on the center dial are stronger and those on the corners are weaker. This makes turning more even, no matter how many pins are pushed out. In older Clocks, resistance noticeably increased when several pins were pushed out.

With the new magnet layout, the pins are more stable and more tactile than in the first version of the QiYi Clock, where they could change position when shaken. Opinions on the magnet strength vary. Some people find them a bit too strong, while others point out the light dials and the risk of overshooting. You can usually adjust this with your setup and lube.

Adjustment and maintenance

• 4 tension adjustment screws, so you can set it to turn looser or tighter.
• Easy to disassemble, so you can lube and clean the Clock yourself.
• Embedded markings. The hands and scale are not printed, so they won't wear off over time.
• Rounded dials that won't rub your fingers during fast turning.

Limited or standard edition?

The limited edition differs mainly in color. The design and magnet layout are the same as in the standard colors. If the mechanism is what matters to you, you get it either way. The limited version makes sense if you like the orange color scheme or you collect different editions.

Who is it for?

For people starting out with Clock who don't want to mod a cheaper model right away, and for those who practice this event regularly. It also makes a great gift for a younger cuber who has already mastered the 3x3 and is looking for something different.
