Solar System – a 3x3 cube with a Solar System theme

Solar System is a 3x3 cube you choose for its looks rather than for fast times. Instead of solid colors, the faces show graphics of our Solar System. The mechanism is classic, and you solve it the same way as a regular 3x3 cube. That makes it a great gift for a child who is into space, or a desk decoration for someone who loves cubes.

How is it different from a regular cube?

The biggest difference is the look. Instead of matching colors, you solve the cube by following the graphics. If you already know the beginner's method, it's a nice change from the standard color scheme. The cube is the typical 56 mm size, so it sits comfortably in the hand of both children and adults.

Inside there are adjustment screws. By tightening or loosening them, you change the tension. A tighter cube turns more stiffly but is more stable. A looser one turns more easily, but popping is more likely.

Is it suitable for speedcubing?

This cube is not allowed in official competitions. WCA regulations require each face to be a single solid color, and this cube has graphics. If you're starting to train for time, get a separate speedcube for that, ideally a magnetic one. Solar System is best treated as a themed puzzle for fun and for your collection.
