DaYan Bermuda Mars is a 3x3-based shape mod with three triangular Fisher Cube-style centers. The triangles block some moves, and when turned by 45 degrees they change the shape of the cube. This puzzle from the Bermuda series is designed for those who can already solve the classic 3x3.
DaYan Bermuda Mars looks like an ordinary 3x3 cube, but it solves differently. On three faces, the square center is replaced by a large triangular piece, so some moves are blocked. It is a shape mod puzzle from the Bermuda series. The series includes eight "planets" (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune) and four special editions. All models are based on the 3x3 and differ in the number and placement of the triangles.
The triangular centers work much like those in the Fisher Cube. Faces with a triangle can be turned by 45 degrees, which changes the shape of the cube. While a piece is skewed like this, the faces next to it cannot be turned. Mars combines three Fisher-style faces with three regular faces. The effect is similar to bandaging: while solving, and even while scrambling, the cube regularly locks up, and you have to figure out how to work around the restriction.
Standard 3x3 algorithms will only help partially. Most of the work is planning the order of moves, building blocks and using short sequences adapted to the moves that are available. People who have solved several models from the series often find Mars harder than Earth. You need to plan the order of the layers in advance, because a wrong choice can easily leave you stuck near the end.
Bermuda Mars makes sense if you can comfortably solve a classic 3x3 cube and are looking for a puzzle that makes you think rather than one for speed. It is not a speed cube, so features such as TPS or corner cutting don't matter much here. What counts is the logic of the moves. If you are just learning the 3x3, it's better to get a regular cube first and come back to the Bermuda series later. Mars also fits nicely into a collection alongside the other planets in the series, as each of them imposes different restrictions.
