MoYu AoFu V5 7x7 Dual-Track Magnetic

The fifth generation of the AoFu, MoYu's flagship 7x7, comes in three magnetic versions: Single-Track, Dual-Track and Triple-Track. The MoYu AoFu V5 7x7 Dual-Track Magnetic is the middle option. It has 144 magnets in the outer layers and a Ball-Core with 16 magnets, for a total of 160 magnets. The cube measures 62 mm and has a matte (frosted) surface and a stickerless bright colour scheme.

What the Ball-Core changes in a 7x7 cube

In the Single-Track version, the magnets work only between the pieces of the layers. The Dual-Track adds magnets between the corners and the core. The other 144 magnets are the same as in the Single-Track version, so the difference mainly affects how the outer faces behave. They snap into place more firmly, align more easily and give you more controlled turns. On a big cube, where a layer can easily end up slightly out of alignment, this means less realigning while you solve.

Design and adjustment

• A widened outer layer improves the stability of the whole cube.
• A reinforced core reduces deformation inside the cube, and with it catching and popping.
• Springs with screw adjustment let you set the tensioning steplessly: looser for speed or tighter for control.
• A weight of 147 g, which is fairly light for a 7x7. Your hands get less tired during solves that take several minutes.

Single, Dual or Triple?

The Single-Track (144 magnets, no Ball-Core) is the simplest and also the lightest version of the AoFu V5. The Triple-Track has 232 magnets, because on top of the Ball-Core it adds another 72 magnets in the anti-pop feet of the inner pieces. You can feel the magnetic guidance throughout the whole cube, but the cube itself is slightly heavier. The Triple-Track is also available with a UV coating. The Dual-Track is the in-between option: the magnets in the core guide the outer faces, and there are no additional magnets inside the cube.

Who is it for?

For anyone who solves 7x7 regularly and wants a flagship design with magnets in the core, but without the full set of magnets of the Triple-Track version. It works well as a first serious 7x7 for someone who already knows the reduction method from 4x4 and 5x5. If you want the strongest possible magnetic feel, you will probably prefer the Triple-Track. A 7x7 is not suitable as a child's first cube, though.
