Picube AoFu V5 SE UV 7x7

Picube AoFu V5 SE UV is a special edition of the MoYu AoFu V5 7x7 cube, made together with the PiCube brand. The mechanism comes from the standard single-track AoFu V5. PiCube changed the magnet setup between the edges and corners, replaced the springs with its own and gave the cube a UV coating. The cube is stickerless in bright colors, has a blue PiCube logo and comes in a collector's special edition box.

How it turns

The AoFu V5 series is noticeably smaller than earlier MoYu 7x7 cubes. At the same time, the outer layers are wide and the centers are small, which helps during the 3x3 stage and adds stability. This layout also has a downside: small centers make slice flicks harder, so some people turn the inner layers with their wrist instead. Reviewers describe the out-of-the-box turning as fairly dry, so it is worth lubing the cube before your first serious solves. After PiCube's changes, the cube is meant to feel crisp but still easy to control. Keep in mind that this is tuning for a specific feel, not a change to the design.

How is it different from other AoFu V5 versions?

The basic Single-Track has a matte surface and the factory magnet setup. The double-track versions also have 16 magnets in the Ball-Core. In the SE edition, PiCube added its own core magnet system on top of that. The triple-track version also has 72 anti-pop magnets and much stronger magnets. Because of that, some users find it too snappy and prefer the lighter turning of the cheaper versions. The SE UV version has no core magnets. It therefore gives lighter, less „guided” turns and has a modified magnet and spring setup compared with the base cube.

Who is it for?

For someone who already solves bigger cubes and is looking for a compact 7x7 with a UV coating, but without paying extra for the Ball-Core. It is good for practice and for competitions. Collectors of PiCube editions will like it too. It also works as a first 7x7 cube, although you can buy the same mechanism for less without the UV coating and the special edition.
