The base version of the MoYu AoFu V5 7x7 magnetic cube: 62 mm, approx. 144 g and 144 magnets in the outer layers. It has no Ball-Core or anti-pop magnets, so the turning is lighter than in the Double-Track and Triple-Track versions. Matte finish, stickerless bright color scheme.

MoYu AoFu V5 7x7 Single-Track Magnetic is the base version of the fifth-generation AoFu, MoYu's magnetic 7x7 cube. The series comes in three versions: Single-Track, Double-Track and Triple-Track. All of them are the same 62 mm size and share the same set of 144 magnets in the outer layers. The difference is what MoYu added inside. The Single-Track has no extra magnets, so it is the simplest and lightest in the series.
At 62 mm, this is a small cube for a 7x7, and at about 144 g it puts less strain on your hands during long sessions. Size is a matter of taste, though. Cubers with larger hands who are used to bigger 7x7s say the AoFu V5 can feel too cramped in the hand. MoYu widened the outer layers and redesigned the internals so the pieces are less likely to misalign. This is meant to reduce lockups and popping, which are common problems in big cubes. Users report that the turning is fairly dry out of the box, so lubing it before you start is a good idea.
Without a Ball-Core, the magnets only guide the layers, so the cube "clicks" less firmly than the Double and Triple versions. Some cubers prefer exactly that, because the turning feels lighter and less heavy. If you want stronger layer alignment, consider the Double-Track.
The more magnets, the more stable the cube and the more strongly it snaps the layers into place on its own. Not everyone likes that, though. The Single-Track gives you the full AoFu V5 mechanism without the extra magnetization.
For anyone who wants to move up to a modern magnetic 7x7, for example after a 5x5 or from a budget cube, and doesn't need a Ball-Core right away. The Single-Track is also a good fit for cubers who find strong magnets distracting on big cubes. For a younger child, a 7x7 is usually not a good first choice. It's better to start with a 3x3.
