Picube AoFu V5 SE UV Core Magnet 7x7

This is a special edition of the MoYu AoFu V5 7x7 cube, created by MoYu together with PiCube. The Picube AoFu V5 SE UV Core Magnet is based on the Double-Track version. It differs from the standard model in three ways: a different edge-corner magnet layout, different springs and a magnetic core designed by PiCube. The cube has a UV coating and a stickerless bright colour scheme.

How this edition differs from the regular AoFu V5

The standard AoFu V5 comes in three versions. Single-Track has 144 magnets on the outer tracks. Double-Track adds 16 magnets in the Ball-Core. Triple-Track also has 72 anti-pop magnets in the piece feet. The SE edition starts from the Double-Track, but instead of the factory core it has a magnetic core from PiCube. According to the manufacturer, this makes the magnets work with a strength close to the Triple-Track, while the cube keeps the more flexible character of the two-track version. This is a manufacturer's claim, not a measured parameter. One thing is certain: this edition is tuned more for stability than for the lightest possible turning.

How it turns

On a 7x7, stability matters a lot. The cube has many inner layers, so fast turning can easily lead to misalignment and lockups. Stronger magnetic guidance helps the layers snap into place, and the springs chosen for this edition are meant to give a crisp but controllable feel. Some people, however, prefer weaker magnets and lighter turning on big cubes. The standard Double-Track is valued precisely for its lighter, faster feel, so with those preferences it may suit you better.

UV or Matte?

The edition with the PiCube magnetic core is available with a UV coating and in a matte version. In both cases the magnets and core are the same; only the surface differs. UV gives a glossy finish with stronger grip, while Matte has a matte surface with less shine. PiCube has also released the AoFu V5 Single-Track UV SE. That version has no magnets in the core, so it has a different character from the cube described here.

Who is it for?

For anyone who solves 7x7 regularly and wants a stable cube with noticeable magnet strength, without switching to the Triple-Track version. Collectors will like it too, as the cube has a blue PiCube logo and a special edition box. For your first 7x7, a simpler and cheaper magnetic model is usually enough.
