Picube AoShi 6x6 V4 SE Frosted Core Magnet

MoYu created this special edition of the AoShi V4 together with PiCube. The Picube AoShi 6x6 V4 SE Frosted Core Magnet is a 6x6 cube built on the AoShi V4 with magnets in a double-track layout. PiCube added its own set of core magnets, i.e. magnets in the core. This version has a matte frosted surface without a UV coating and comes in a stickerless bright colour scheme.

What the SE edition changes

The base is the AoShi V4. It is about 1.5 mm smaller than the previous generation and lightweight, because its pieces are hollow. PiCube changed a few things:

• Core magnets tuned by PiCube. Magnets in the core help keep the layers aligned and bring them back into place after an imprecise turn. On a 6x6, where the inner layers easily end up slightly misaligned, this makes a practical difference.
• Different edge-corner magnets and custom springs. According to the manufacturer, they give a tactile and controllable feeling.
• Blue PiCube logo on the cube and a collector's special edition box.

How it turns

Users describe the AoShi V4 as a fast, smooth and stable 6x6 that rarely catches. PiCube claims that the reinforced core gives magnetic strength close to the triple-track version, but without its extra weight and heavier turning. This is the manufacturer's claim, so how you perceive it depends on the feeling you like. The V4 series usually needs a little time to break in. Some people also adjust the lube and the tensioning, which is adjustable. The frosted plastic has medium grip, and over time it wears in slightly and holds better in your fingers.

SE Core Magnet or another AoShi V4?

The AoShi V4 comes in three basic versions:

• Single-track (144 magnets) is the lightest and has the simplest layout.
• Double-track (160 magnets) additionally has magnets on the core axis.
• Triple-track (232 magnets) also has magnets in the inner layers. It is the most stable in the series, but also the heaviest (approx. 141 g).

The SE Core Magnet edition is a double-track with a core reworked by PiCube. It is meant to offer stability closer to the triple-track at the weight of the double-track. The SE UV version reportedly has the same mechanism and differs only in finish: a glossy coating that grips your fingers more strongly.

Who is it for?

For people who solve 6x6 regularly and want a stable cube with core magnets, but prefer a lighter cube than the triple-track. For a first 6x6, the basic AoShi V4 single-track is usually enough. The SE edition makes the most sense once you know which feeling suits you.
